About the place

The hermitage stands on the hill north of Hurezi Monastery; the national monuments list places it about 500 metres from the monastery. Abbot Ioan Arhimandritul founded it in 1698, and the church was painted in 1700 by the hierodeacon Iosif and by Ioan. The church, the cells and the enclosure wall are listed.

It belongs to the Hurezi ensemble together with the great church, the infirmary church and the hermitage of Saint Stephen. That one was built in 1703, about 1 km west of the monastery, was named after Brâncoveanu's eldest son and is also listed.

Good to know

  • Combine it with the monastery visit; it is about 500 metres uphill.
  • No schedule is published; outside services the church may be locked.
  • The Saint Stephen hermitage is on Schitului Street, west of the monastery.
