About the place
The park is named after the prince who, in a document of 1389, called Râmnic 'the town of the reign'. Of the princely court that stood here, the walls around the park can still be seen, and the 1968 statue of Mircea the Elder stands in the middle. Around it are the Roman Catholic church of St Anthony of Padua, from 1723, and the 18th-century Socoteanu-Lahovary House, today the Children's Palace.
The Buna Vestire (Annunciation) church was built in 1747 on the site of older churches and has fresco painting from 1751–1753. The Crucea Mișeilor stone cross of 1734–1735 stands in its courtyard. In 2026 the church is under consolidation and restoration, and archaeologists found beneath it the foundations of two older churches, which they tentatively date to the 14th and 16th centuries.
