It is a listed monument and a starting point for walks to the Urzicii waterfall and up to Cabana Cozia.
About the place
The monastery sits in the forest on the southern slope of the Cozia massif, above the Păușa valley. It was consecrated in 1747 and dedicated to Saint George; its founders were Gheorghe Clucerul and other boyars from Pitești. Until the 18th century the place was called Nucet, and today's name comes from the sheepfolds (stâne) in the area.
It is a monks' monastery and keeps the relics of Saints Neofit and Meletie. EU funding to restore the church and the refectory was announced in December 2024. The ensemble is a listed monument (VL-II-a-B-09699).
