It is a listed monument of national value and keeps the rock-cut cells of its first hermits.
About the place
In the 15th and 16th centuries, monks from Cozia withdrew here and lived in huts and in cells cut into the rock; the hermits Daniil and Misail were among them. The stone church of the Presentation of the Virgin dates from 1676. The name comes from a tower on a rock called Piscul lui Teofil, which tradition attributes to the Romans of the Arutela fort.
The Transfiguration church was built between 1893 and 1901 as part of Bishop Gherasim Timuș's summer residence and consecrated in 1901. After a fire in 1932 the murals were repainted in 1935–1936. The ensemble is a listed monument (VL-II-a-A-09862).
